BMW 6-Series Wireless Charging Guide

With a handsome exterior and smartly engineered chassis that can handle even the tightest corners on the road, the BMW 6-Series models are appealing and can perform extremely well.

For the 2017 model year, inductive charging has been added as one of the updates to the 6-Series coupe, gran coupe, convertible and Alpina B6 gran coupe. If you own any model from this series, read below to know how to optimize its wireless charging feature.

How to Check Your Smartphone’s Compatibility

The wireless charging pocket inside the center console of the BMW 6-Series uses the Qi charging standard. It comes with two USB ports that can be used to recharge bigger mobile devices like tablets that won’t fit into the specialized charging pocket.

To use your BMW’s wireless charging feature for those with iPhone 7 or iPhone 6, you need the BEZALEL’s Latitude charging case, which functions both as a case and Qi-compatible accessory. Because iPhones don't have built-in wireless charging capability yet, this is needed first in order to start charging. Rumor is however, the upcoming iPhone 8 will have built-in wireless capability. Until then, you’ll have to use the Qi-compatible case.

The same goes for when you’re using an older Android smartphone. You’ll have to use an adapter patch or case to power up in your 6-Series in-car wireless charging.

Newer Android phones can readily be used with the wireless charging pocket of the BMW 6-Series, as they have inductive charging compatibility already built into them.

  3. Drop your smartphone into the pocket until it’s securely in place.
  4. When a blue LED light comes on, it means that charging has begun.
  5. Once charging is finished, lift your smartphone to remove it.

Wireless Charging Safety Tips

  • Check first if your phone is thin enough to fit in the wireless charging pocket.
  • To prevent any damage to your phone, don’t force it into the 6-Series charging compartment if it won’t fit right.
  • Use a case with the right thickness for the charge to penetrate your device.
  • Avoid charging your mobile device when direct sunlight is hitting the center armrest to prevent overheating.
